The concept and philosophy of meditation
Meditation is a centuries old concept, which spans continents and religions. At Modern Meditation, the aim is to help people find styles of meditation which suit them; it is not faith based. Meditation and mindfulness are at the heart of what we do, to help people with that sense of being fully present in their lives at any given moment. This is through a variety of styles of meditation, whether focusing on your breath, focusing on sounds or music, mindful movement, contemplative meditation (so focusing perhaps on a flower or a candle), guided visualisation (where we take you to a place or situation) or more structured meditation, such as zen, which may, for example, require more counting of your breath, rather than breathing freely.
We don't believe that for meditation to help you, sitting for hours a day is the only way; we will work with you to find techniques which you feel happy and comfortable with, and can be fitted into your lifestyle.

MeditationThe aim is to have your mind clear, relaxed & with an inward focus, so you're awake & alert, but examining things with an inner awareness & clarity, whilst giving your full attention to whatever the focus of your meditation may be (e.g. your breath).

MindfulnessAlso known as paying attention on purpose! It involves a conscious direction of our awareness in a non- judgmental way, whilst paying attention to, and seeing clearly, what is happening in our lives.
