The questions we get asked most often are.......
.........usually about the basics!
Some of the questions most often asked are whether you have to be religious to meditate, whether meditation is similar to yoga, what type of clothes you should wear, and what the benefits are. There are many health benefits, but it should be stressed that meditation is not a replacement for any mental health therapy, although it can combine well with this, provided your GP or treating therapist agrees.
What clothing do I need to wear?
Loose and comfortable clothing is ideal (so a T-Shirt and tracksuit trousers are fine).
Are the principles like yoga?
Some of our work at Modern Meditation will probably be familiar; those of you in particular who may have done Hatha yoga are likely to be very comfortable with some of the breath based meditations, which are similar to those you would have done in Hatha.

Is meditation religious? Many religions do have meditation at their heart, for example Buddhism. Modern Meditation is not faith based, but those who meditate often find this is a helpful support to their faith, rather than a replacement.

Do I need to sit a certain way?Meditation is not the same as yoga, there are no "poses" to adopt. Sit in a chair if you find it too uncomfortable to sit on the floor. As long as you are relaxed and comfortable, that's the main thing!
For body scan meditations, you may be asked to lie on the floor, if you can. |
What are the benefits?More scientific studies are being conducted on meditation than ever before. There is evidence that regular meditation helps to lower blood pressure & resting heart rate, boosts our immunity, helps us to relax, and improves our concentration and focus.
